Acting Features Editor (Real Life) Maternity Cover

Bella magazine is offering an exciting opportunity to run its features desk for a six month fixed-term maternity cover contract from 18th July, or thereabouts. The successful candidate will have been a features editor or deputy features editor for at least two years on a weekly magazine that focuses on real life stories.  The candidate will be a first-class writer and understand how to weave a true life story in a way that is impactful and entertaining to the reader. They will be an excellent copy editor who relishes knocking any story into shape and be able to give clear and direct rewriting briefs to the team. They would ensure every issue of Bella is packed full of the most juicy/emotional/shocking real life stories, taking care that the flatplan carries a balance of everything the Bella reader expects. They will be expected to organise and lead a team of writers, have great contacts with real life agencies and freelancers and be bursting with brilliant features ideas. They will commission from agencies, negotiate prices, liaise with Bella’s picture and art desks so that the layout for every real life story is as good as it can possibly be. If this sounds like your bag, please send a covering letter and a CV to Julia Davis, Editor Bella, julia.davis@bauer.co.uk

Designer

TV Choice/TV Quick is looking for an enthusiastic and creative designer to join its art department.  A great opportunity to develop your talents working alongside an experienced and friendly team in the interesting world of television magazines.

Applicants would ideally have at least two years experience within the weeklies market and be able to work at a fast but accurate pace.  A good knowledge of Indesign and Photoshop is a must.

Media Research Analyst

HBP Media Sales is the advertising sales arm of H. Bauer, the UK’s largest magazine publisher.  We are responsible for a number of titles which include the market leading women’s weekly Take A Break, as well as Bella, That’s Life, TV Quick, Total TV Guide and the UK’s biggest selling magazine, TV Choice. 

A fantastic opportunity exists for a bright, enthusiastic Media Research Analyst to work in the Marketing and Research Department, promoting Bauer’s magazine brands to the advertising industry.

Key responsibilities:
Provide detailed and insightful analysis of advertising markets for the senior management team.
Utilise a variety of media research sources to create powerful sales arguments for the advertising sales teams.
Analyse and disseminate industry data to ensure high levels of knowledge amongst sales staff.
Assist in the maintenance and development of Bauer’s online presence.
Assist with any ad hoc research projects that the department undertakes.
Assist with any trade marketing activity across Bauer’s full portfolio of magazine brands.

The ideal candidate will have:
Excellent numeracy skills
Experience of working within a media environment
A degree or equivalent level qualification
Strong computer skills (Excel and Powerpoint particularly).
A basic understanding of market research techniques.
Good attention to detail and the ability to produce high quality written material.
Working knowledge of media industry research tools (ABC, NRS, TGI, NMR…) would be a bonus.
Positive & enthusiastic approach.
